An introduction to playing Klondike Solitaire
Take a moment with Klondike Solitaire before moving to another game. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Use the example below to understand a decision. Choose a comfortable screen position before beginning. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.
One deck; draw-one or draw-three stock; waste recycling. Free solo play, no wagering.
Something to practise
Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Make the next step deliberately.
The goal to keep in mind
Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Return to the instructions when a step is unclear.
The steps to play
- Build down in alternating colours; kings fill empty columns. Valid ordered runs move together.
- Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
- Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
- Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.
Keyboard and screen controls
Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Use the control method described here for this activity. Use the visible help when you are unsure of the next input.
Follow the example
A red 6 fits a black 7, not another red 7. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Read the matching step again.
One detail worth checking
Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Take a moment to reassess the position before continuing. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
